Simulation of Whirl Interaction in Pinion-Gear Systems Supported on Oil Film Bearings

Abstract

The pinion gear system is modeled as a coupled two-rotor problem in this study. Each rotor is centrally supported on two hydrodynamic bearings and the inertia and load interaction between the two rotors is considered throughout their whirl orbits. Numerical results are given to illustrate the effect of transmitted load on the whirl amplitudes and stability of balanced and unbalanced gears with different gear ratios.
