In this paper we examine the problem of flexible cable equilibrium in water flow, when the cable is loaded with an arbitrarily distributed load which is directed perpendicular to the flow. We define optimal value and distribution of this load and parameters of cable equilibrium corresponding to this load. The optimal load provides maximum deflection of the rear end of the cable in relation to front end in the direction perpendicular to the flow direction, provided the tension is limited.
