The selected papers appearing in this Special Section of the Journal were presented at the 2011 ASME–PVP Symposium on Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV) held in Baltimore, MD in 2011. The Symposium has, over the years, been a valuable forum for researchers and engineers in the industry to share and discuss new developments and insights into flow-induced vibrations. This Special Section of the Journal is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Frantisek L. Eisinger, a specialist in acoustically induced vibrations, a key member of the FIV community, and co-developer of most of the past Symposia.
Flow-induced vibration remains the cause of costly failures in the nuclear and process industries. While reasonably reliable design guidelines have been established, much work remains to be done.
