Abstract

Pressure vessels shall meet operating requirements and maintain pressure without damage. Pressure vessels need lifting trunnion to facilitate for shipping and assembly. Large pressure vessels can weigh many tons more than typical ones. Erection and shipping of pressure vessels sometimes break lifting components due to their enormous weight. Several analyses are needed to anticipate lifting trunnion failure. Site errors can be avoided via predictive simulations. This study evaluates lifting trunnion structural suitability for large pressure vessel erection and lifting. This study is crucial because the ASME code lacks explicit guidelines for lifting trunnions.
